Tools and other things that are not used very often should be stored in a garage, shed or cellar. Unfortunately, many people do not dare to keep them there, as they are afraid to fall victim to theft. It’s reasonable, statistics published on police departments’ websites show that such crimes are everyday occurrences. Therefore, cordless drills, snowboards, bicycles, skis, and surfing equipment end up in people’s living quarters or are taken to grandma’s house in the countryside. Until now, there has been no technical solution that would allow to guard seldom used rooms that don’t have a proper electrical supply and are not covered by a GSM network.
Smart doors for security
What if a door could send a message to your phone when it’s being opened or closed, while you are away on a trip or at work? This would prevent situations where a person arrives home to find a broken door lock or missing gold jewelry. Even if home insurance compensates for any material damage, the sense of security has been lost due to the intrusion.
CrabSec has found a solution that helps to avoid break-ins and thefts by using sensors that can be activated with a smartphone. The sensors transmit information to relevant devices through Sigfox IoT network, so there is no need to connect the sensor to a Wi-Fi or GSM network. Thanks to Internet of Things (IoT) the door is figuratively connected to the Internet, which means that the sensors can start real-time data transmission to the owner regarding any activity.
One of the advantages of using SigFox network and Internet of Things is the low power consumption of data transfer, which gives the sensors a long battery life. There is no need for anything other than double-sided tape to install them. For example, a basement, garage or apartment door can be fitted with a sensor which transforms it into a so-called smart door that monitors opening and closing, thus ensuring the security of the premises.
How do the sensors work?
One sensor is placed on the door itself and the other is placed on the door frame or the panel. The sensors must be positioned next to each other so that they can communicate while the door is in motion. A magnetic field is created between the two devices. The field is broken when the door moves and a signal is sent to the alarm modem. In the event of a sensor alarm, the client receives an automated robot-call. If necessary, CrabSec application can be used to send a security team to check the cause of the alarm.
No movement will go unnoticed by the owner and the doors can be monitored remotely. These sensors are ideal for guarding apartments, houses, offices, garages or any other rooms. Depending on the nature of the object, in addition to the door sensor, a motion detector, smoke detector or even a water leakage sensors can be installed, which will send notifications to the owner using similar technology.
CrabSec enables the use of advanced technology, which makes activity monitoring easy and provides real-time information to the owner when the door is opened or closed. This means you can go to work knowing that the building is secured.
